Eva Natanya (also known as Yangchen Osel) is a full-time meditator and resident teacher at Miyo Samten Ling Hermitage. A scholar of Indian and Tibetan Buddhism, Christian theology, and comparative mysticism, for the last fourteen years Eva has served in many capacities as a spiritual teacher, academic lecturer, scholarly writer, translator and editor of Tibetan texts, and retreat leader. Following a nine-year career as a professional ballet dancer with both the New York City Ballet and the Royal Ballet of England, she earned an MA in Christian Systematic Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, and a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Virginia.

For over twenty years, she has studied and practiced meditation, yoga, and philosophy in both the Christian and Buddhist traditions with master teachers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. She has worked with Dr. B. Alan Wallace on a number of his translations, principally as the editor of Open Mind: View and Meditation in the Lineage of Lerab Lingpa (2018) and co-editor of Fathoming the Mind: Inquiry and Insight in Düdjom Lingpa’s Vajra Essence (2018). In a Christian context, Eva has co-authored a book with Veronica Mary Rolf on living resurrection faith as a contemplative practice, called Living Resurrected Lives (Cascade Books, 2020).

Repeatedly withdrawing from these outer works of study, teaching, and writing, Eva has spent most of the last three years in solitary meditation retreat, first in California, and then in Colorado. She is now honored to be able to serve and help to guide a newly-formed community of committed meditators here at Miyo Samten Ling.

Her contemplative work in silent retreat continues to explore the deep connections between Christian and Buddhist spiritual paths—at the rigorous levels of personal practice, where we inquire into the ultimate nature of reality while dancing on the edge of imperturbable stillness.
